Nahahum Cabin by Balance Associates Architects

Nahahum is a two-story home located north of Cashmere, Washington, designed by Balance Associates Architects. The 1,500 square foot residence is situated on the hillside with concrete retaining walls that serve as a guide for the cabin’s form. The architects were particularly conscious of the building’s orientation in order to both maximize solar energy while maintaining panoramic views.

The main entry features a double height ceiling with glazings on the north and south walls to frame the most dramatic views of the canyon. The living space and kitchen, which occupy most of the main floor, are eastern oriented along the powder and utility room. The upper floor contains the master suite and guest bedroom/bathroom.

The ground floor windows next to the living room also function as sliding doors to provide a seamless connection between the interior and outdoor space. The upper floor also contains a loft-style flex space that opens up to the living room below, which can be used as an office nook or an entertainment space.
