Naive Furniture by thinkDO Studio

One man’s dilapidated object is another man’s naive furniture.

In Brazilian neighborhoods, it’s not uncommon to build new, functional objects from the broken remains of another. Rather than being beautiful, these objects are spontaneous, creative, and exist to fulfill a need. Inspired by imperfection and expressive power of these random creations, thinkDO studio began to build their own “naive” art objects.

To find the material, thinkDO studio searched downtown São Paulo, looking for naive furniture. These “naive” pieces are characterized by randomness — where legs, backrests, seats, etc., are put together without any standard of function or beauty.

Using these found pieces, they began to build their own furniture and objects. Each individual piece was colored so that when combined as a whole, you can still see the nature of each individual piece. In the end, the resulting mass becomes an imperfect object that is perfect.
