Babel: Objects That Combine Art and Function

REDESIGND and Israeli designer Nir Meiri have paired up again to present Babel, a series of “vessels that walk a thin line between art and functional design.” It is a limited edition collection, where only nine of each piece were handmade by the designer out of natural materials like bamboo and chipboard, along with Corian.

The collaboration consists of vases, boxes, candlesticks, and three trays that combine natural materials to continue Meiri’s work with form and matter. Babel is inspired by the ancient architecture, specifically pulling from temples, altars, and cities.

When viewed together, the pieces illustrate the skyline of an ancient city, further cementing the metaphor. However, when standing alone, each piece is not only functional, but also has a powerful charisma that provokes imagination.
