Objects for Atheists

Guy Keulemans researched online atheist groups and also the influence of religion on atheists. This large chest of drawers is the result of his research.

Shelves are hidden in the back of a chest of drawers, becoming a secret to be discovered; and superseding the secretive nature of drawers. This concept is positioned as a metaphor for the continual drive of atheists to uncover and expose the mysteries of science, religion and life.

Constructed from sustainably harvested bamboo with dovetail joinery, and little to no glue or nails were used. Castors allow the chest to be moved around easily.

You can read through the research and download Guy’s thesis from his research journal. This piece is currently on exhibition at the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Galleries 2009, through October 25th.
