Odile Hainaut + Claire Pijoulat on Starting Your Career as a Designer, Wondering How?

We are pleased to share the next rebroadcast of 2021 from our Design Conversations Lecture Series partnership with The Vignelli Center for Design Studies. This talk by WantedDesign co-founders Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat is more than just a lecture: it reflects on their 10 years as curators, event organizers and design connectors, but also shares insights and actions you can take as a designer to start or further your career. Learn how they met, how and why they started WantedDesign and hear success stories, plus how designers can enact responsibility, resilience, empathy, curiosity, friendships and more for success.

Odile and Claire met in 2011 and decided to join forces to launch a satellite event in conjunction with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), initiating a movement within the New York City design community to build a real design week in New York. WantedDesign, now with two fairs in May (Manhattan and Brooklyn) and a permanent design store in Brooklyn, is a year-long international creative platform that brings together the global design community to showcase, discuss and share exciting, inspiring and innovative projects and designers. WantedDesign has become a premiere international exhibition during New York City’s Design Week. In addition, Design Milk has been actively involved in WantedDesign as a media partner, speaker, program coordinator and leader of the WantedDesign Launchpad jury.

To learn more about The Vignelli Center for Design Studies at RIT, they have launched digital access to the archives through Google Arts & Culture, joining over 2000 cultural institutions from around the world. The initial launch includes nearly 900 high resolution images of artifacts from the archives so that now anyone with access to the Internet and Google Arts & Culture can search the Vignelli archives or browse it by color or chronological order. Very exciting!

This lecture series is made possible in part by the generosity of RIT Alumnus, Chris Bailey and Bailey Brand Consulting.
