An Old Farmhouse Gets Transformed Into a Medical Office

Interior Architect Johan Van Staeyen was presented with a goal – to turn a historic, 16th century farmhouse in Westerlo, Belgium, into a pleasant and functional doctor’s office. Full of character and classic details, Johan wanted to keep those traits but ensure it had modern-day comfort.

Grayscale tiles and bright blue seat cushions add a modern, graphic touch to the waiting area.

Due to the farmhouse being a protected monument, Johan faced some challenges during the renovation, specifically when it came to what materials can be used to restore it. However, he was able to harmoniously blend old and new together with what he had.

The minimal white interior and modern furniture creates an intriguing contrast with the more rustic wood beams and frame.

The farmhouse has also been chosen as a candidate for the Flemish Monument Prize Province of Antwerp.
