Osaka Ottomans + Tables by Teruhiro Yanagihara for Offecct

Osaka is a minimal collection of tables and ottomans designed by Teruhiro Yanagihara for Offecct. The designer focused on reduction in order to find the core of each product. The end result is the simplest of forms and materials, reflecting on each other and creating a jigsaw puzzle expressing precision and clarity.

As a Japanese designer for a Swedish brand, the similarities in design tradition from the two cultures are focused on reduction versus complexity. In part, cobblestone footpaths of different sizes were used as inspiration for their organic forms that simultaneously exude precision and clarity.

As described by Teruhiro Yanagihara, “My background is in spatial design and architecture, and I’m always thinking about spaces, rather than about individual objects. What I saw before me with Osaka was a landscape of furniture, inspired by Japanese stone gardens.”
