When three New York-based designers team up with the intention of reimagining how unique design objects from today’s top designers are made, you know it’s going to be good. With Joe Doucet, Dean DiSimone, and Evan Clabots at the helm, OTHR takes the novelty out of 3D printing and utilizes it as tool, that when paired with designers, has the ability to create the “first everyday artifacts of the third industrial revolution,” says Doucet.
The designs are simple, as well as functional using materials like porcelain, steel, and precious metals in unexpected ways. Every two weeks, OTHR plans to release a new 3D printed design, with 12 products available for this month’s launch. Each piece is available on-demand for consumers in the U.S. and Canada with plans to expand outside of North America later this year.
Joe explained in a recent episode of our Clever podcast, that “In the future as a designer, you’re either going to be a maker, which I have the utmost respect for and we have several working with us on OTHR, or you’re going to be a creator of intellectual property. And the small-level manufacturer is going to be eviscerated. It’s either going to be craftsmen, or robots. And since I’m not a craftsmen, I opted to pioneer the robots.”
The classic birdhouse gets a subtle makeover from Claesson Koivisto Rune, who designed Birdhaus out of your choice of matte black or gloss white 3D printed porcelain.
Is it a cool, geometric object or a functional object? It’s actually both. The 3D printed bronze Ico Bottle Opener by Fort Standard is bound to become an iconic piece.
The EE Juicer Set by Everything Elevated comes with all three individual sizes or in small, medium, or large gloss white 3D printed porcelain juicers.
Jonah Takagi designed the Double Vessel Set with both art and utility in mind. The three-piece set comes in either matte black or gloss white 3D printed porcelain or as individual small, medium, and large sizes in either color.
The Connection Vessel by Philippe Malouin comes in 3D printed steel in a matte black finish with a curled handle to easily lift the lid off.
Todd Bracher’s Kyou Sugar Bowl, Circular Spoon & Creamer comes as a full set or as individual pieces in matte black or gloss white 3D printed porcelain. The spoon comes in 3D printed sterling silver or 18k plated gold.
The Ipseity Wall Hooks by Evan Clabots are available as a set of three in a square shape or in a rectangular shape, as well as individually. Each wall hook is crafted in 3D printed polished gold steel.
