The Ovo might be labeled as a passive iPhone speaker, but there’s nothing passive otherwise about the elegant choice of material used by stone craftsman company Monitillo Marmi to craft their unique iPhone analog amplification speaker. Carved out from a single block of Cararra marble with the aid of a computer controlled cutting machine, the heft of the Ovo is contrasted against the precision of a soft, angled cylindrical shape which invites fingers to trace along its cool, smooth surface, alongside elicit curious inquiries of its purpose answered once an iPhone is slid into place.
As much a conversation piece and sculptural design object as a functioning smartphone accessory, the Ovo’s handcrafted marble finish will undoubtedly be cited as one of many examples of the marble trend continuing into 2015.
