Pentagonal House by Kazuya Morita Architecture Studio

Located near Nagoya, Japan in the village of Tsushima City, the Pentagonal House was built for a young couple by Kazuya Morita Architecture Studio. The couple wanted to build their house on the same lot as the Japanese style house that their parents live in.

The skewed pentagonal shape of the house was brought about to maximize the interior while providing enough space around the perimeter. Five interior walls were built radially, like a wheel spoke, to provide divisions within the space. Central walls were cut into a domed shape to provide adequate space for a dining table and to allow for views into the five surrounding spaces.

The house might not be as conventional as most but it is outfitted with a traditional hipped roof and wooden structure system found on most Japanese houses, as well as having walls that are finished with round corners in Japanese white plaster.
