Radical Simplification Created This Minimalist Washbasin

Designed for Mantova, Italy-based Agape, Benedini Associati has created its own minimalist interpretation of a washbasin, called Ell. Inspired by Bruno Munari’s idea “Da cosa nasce cosa” (“What comes from what”), the washbasin has gone through a process of radical simplification where anything that wasn’t contributing to the functionality of the piece was taken away. What’s left are two architectural elements that redefine the idea of the everyday washbasin.

The extended, freestanding faucet curves over the basin, which is integrated with an aeration grid. The surface of the washbasin also acts like a countertop to hold soap and other objects. The allure of the Ell washbasin is its pure and simple form that also highlights the details of the material. The washbasin is available in a variety of different finishes, including white or dark powder-coated steel for the column; white Carrara, gray Carnico, or black Marquina marble; and white or deep caviar Corian for the top and grill.
