A Range of Furniture Designed for Relaxation

Coping in the world is hard enough, but imagine if you suffered from something like dementia and how difficult it might be to function. French product and furniture designer Géraldine Biard chose to design a range of furniture, Jardin d’Hiver, that helps to promote relaxation via aromatherapy and light therapy as a way to reduce anxiety and sleep disturbances often associated with dementia. With no cure in sight, Biard wanted to help address the problem by improving their lives through design.

The collection includes two bedside cabinets, a credenza, and a console table, each outfitted with an aroma diffuser and a light therapy lamp that aim to engage the user’s sight, smell, and tactile senses. The top parts are made out of translucent Corian®, which helps to diffuse the light. The mountain-like surface disperses aromatherapy scents while mimicking that of a snow covered landscape.
