SashaDasha Design

Aleksandra (Sasha) Gantseva Dasha Gantseva are SashaDasha Design, a Russian pair of young, creative designers who have created a collection called Maps that was made by Jaime Hayon Studio.

The designers explain that the project is an interpretation of modern cities using the map as a pattern. After creative investigation, the designers chose specific areas of each city and applied them to different materials. They explain each piece below.

Copenhagen Table
The underground scheme was taken as a basis for the module. By applying a kaleidoscope method to it, the copy and paste effect resulted in a structure which forms the basis/structure of the table. The table has been engraved with representations of the underground stations. Recognizable silhouettes are seen on the table, which represents the subway map of the city.

Moscow Bowl
During the project research, many variations of the structure of the city were found, such as natural landscapes, historical developments, road networks, general plans of the city and districts. Bowl Moscow is also based on the administrative districts of the city, like the Paris Bowl. However, the city plans are different, therefore the structure is radically different.

This one reminds me of the Spiders on Drugs project by Guillaume Lehoux.

Paris Bowl
During the project research, many variations of the structure of the city were found, such as natural landscapes, historical developments, road networks, general plans of the city and districts. Finally, it was decided to base the Project on the districts; to use districts as the structure of city, which would form the object. Hence, each surface of the vase is a district of Paris. The inner surface of the bowl is engraved with information about the city??s districts. In Paris’s case it is numbered by districts.
