Sculptural Wall Hangings by Jacqueline Surdell

Fiber art is all the rage right now, but I’ve found it hard to really find standouts in this recent sea of wall hangings. However, I bumped into Jacqueline Surdell and fell in love with her large-scale rope macrame-weavings.

A Chicago native, she now lives and works in Los Angeles, CA where she creates large wall hangings inspired by her surroundings, particularly the city-scape and people of Los Angeles. Starting from a loom she creates as a base, her knotting techniques create jumbled knots that mutate and create sculptural effects that are powerful. I especially like that she uses all one color so you can focus on the texture and voids.
