Sir Victor Barcelona Hits the Sweet Spot Between Modernist Design and Bohemian Flair

Tel Aviv-based interior design and architecture studio Baranowitz + Kronenberg have designed the ground floor of the latest addition to the boutique Sir Hotels collection. Sir Victor Hotel in Barcelona sits on the architecturally-diverse, Modernist junction between Gràcia—known for its bohemian, alternative atmosphere as well as Gaudi’s Park Guell—and Eixample—flaunting its geometrical patterned facades and regarded as the city’s main thoroughfare for luxury shops.

Sir Victor’s facade fits right into the funky geometric patterns of the district.

The 91-key Sir Victor hotel features a plunge pool, event and meeting spaces, a wellness area and spa, as well as the award-winning steakhouse, MR PORTER. Through these rooms, theyhoped to create what they called a “journey through landscapes,” and they cited the diverse natural landscape of Barcelona, from the Mediterranean coastline to the jagged terrain of Mount Sant Llorenç Natural Park, as inspiration for this design narrative.

The reception area is designed to be inviting and playful with the use of bright oak floors and an oversized Carrara marble pool table illuminated by spherical Bocci lighting, evoking an effervescent atmosphere.

MR PORTER, the in-house restaurant

Further inside, the tones become more somber and earthy, with dark walnut furniture and large circular lights in the restaurant area accented by black leather and copper rims.

This is Sir Hotels’ sixth outpost. The Amsterdam-based hotel collection currently counts Sir Adam and Sir Albert in Amsterdam, Sir Joan in Ibiza, Sir Nikolai in Hamburg, and Sir Savigny in Berlin among its sister establishments. This newest hotel, Sir Victor, is inspired by one of Catalonia’s most respected feminist authors in the 19th century, Caterina Albert I Paradis, who wrote under the pen name Victor Català. To commemorate her legacy, the hotel dedicated a multi-functional library to her works, as well as other feminist titles.

The rooms feature a contemporary palette of solid, primary colors. Light wood fittings and floorings frame navy furniture, while white sheets accentuate the pops of red in the pillows and the artwork. Contemporary handmade rugs from nanimarquina give the feeling of an artfully put together home and Catalonian artist Bernat Daviu’s abstract paintings, which hang on the walls of every room, lend an added sense of sophistication.
