House C by RTA-Office

It’s hard to believe this magnificently immense building is actually a single-home residence. The name, House C, reflects the structure’s inward facing edges. The home is designed by RTA-Office, and is suitably located in Barcelona. The building has two storeys that sit atop a large basement level.

The structure encloses on itself into a courtyard that contains a pool and lawn. There are “cracks” that utilize natural lighting as efficiently as possible. The facade of the building is littered with tessellating slabs of black basalt that present a unique appearance throughout the day.

The geometry of the building is what struck me at first — ostensibly random, yet seemingly intentional. The mix of transparent elements and “hard” materials creates a contrast as indefinite as the structure itself. Overall, I view the home as a complex beauty with a playful disposition; a truly unique space.
