SCOPE by mA-style Architects

SCOPE is a minimal home located in Shizuoka, Japan, designed by mA-style Architects. At first glance, the design of the home looks like a large telescopic lens pointing toward the open scenery. With closer inspection, the residence becomes a beautiful amalgamation of cutting geometries and clean lines. The architects’ main focus was to recapture the charm and essence of the surrounding environment.

The architects were considering various options suitable for the sloped landscape overlooking the Makinohara plateau. The site was regulated due to the possibility of a landslide near the cliff. As a result, there were many limitations in how the area could be used for construction. The elongated volume on the second floor was the final solution in utilizing as much of the space and view as possible.

The opening of this volume not only projects the awe-inspiring scenery, but allows an abundance of light and wind to enter the home. The architect explicitly advocates a harmonious balance between structure and nature. I can’t imagine how surreal it would be to see this building in person. SCOPE is truly a magnificent and unique architectural work.
