Society6 x Saatchi Art: Refuse to be the Muse

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Society6 and Saatchi Art have joined forces to recognize some best-selling women artists in their Refuse to be the Muse campaign. Saatchi Art will celebrate its best-selling women artists, who refuse to be the muse and instead are creating some of the most vibrant and compelling art today, with an all-women artist catalogue.

Did you know that even though women outnumber men in art schools, they only make up 30% of the artists on display in galleries and museums? As of last year over half of Saatchi Art’s sales were by women, and currently 54 out of their 100 best-selling artists are female!

In the Refuse to be the Muse catalogue you’ll find artists such as Erin Armstrong, Lisa Krannichfeld, and Lisa Hunt among many others.

Two original artworks by Los Angeles-based artist Kelly Puissegur were commissioned especially for the Refuse to be the Muse campaign – Roger Worried That His Hairstyle Was Out of Fashion (above) and Thursday’s Drawing Class Had Run Its Course (below). Saatchi Art is selling the originals along with limited edition prints of both, while Society6 is selling a variety of products featuring Roger Worried That His Hairstyle Was Out of Fashion, including prints, posters, stickers, totes, and t-shirts.

In an ongoing effort to support independent artists from around the world, Design Milk is proud to partner with Society6 to offer The Design Milk Dairy, a special collection of Society6 artists’ work curated by Design Milk and our readers. Proceeds from the The Design Milk Dairy help us bring Design Milk to you every day.
