A Modern Sofa Made with a Traditional Upholstery Technique

Using the traditional upholstery technique called capitonnage, Studio Dafi Reis Doron takes it to an unusual level by using wood beams instead of the typical buttons. Lignes de Capiton is a lounge sofa that found an alternative method that not only pins down the fabric, it creates an alternating linear pattern to what could have been just a flat surface.

With wood being one of the most prominent materials used in furniture, it’s only fitting that it was used to replace the buttons.

The sofa is part of Dafi Reis Doron’s research at the Royal College of Art for the 75% Control project and was shown at Ventura Lambrate as part of the Form&Seek show.
