Artist Min Sun Lee’s latest installation at the Kruger Gallery Marfa explores the in between state of what is familiar and unfamiliar. Through colors, shapes, and meticulously cut paper, Min’s paintings investigate light and color.
With a background in painting and drawing, Min Sun begins each painting with different collages, which starts the spatial investigation. However, rather than painting, Min layers differently cut sheets of Color-aid paper on Bristol paper to create a new space. Each shape is recognizable, but when put together, creates an unrecognizable new form. Further adding to the unfamiliarity is the multiple colors and composition, motivating the viewer to study each painting intensely.
