Stools Made From Discarded Fans and Scrap Wire

Do you ever think about all of the broken appliances we throw out every year? We toss them, they end up in a landfill, and then we buy a new one. Well, Hong Kong-based design studio, KaCaMa Design Lab, decided to do something about it. They specialize in using post-consumer waste materials in their clever designs and the latest is Stool ZERO, a stool made from discarded fans and scrap wire.

Taking the wire cage from old fans left at the St James Settlement recycling center, they then used the plastic outer shell of old copper wires once the wire was removed and wove it through the fan covers to create colorful seats.

The plastic wire covers not only add a decorative element to the design, it helps by bringing a bit of cushion to the metal frame.

Besides promoting recycling, they also wanted to bring about attention to craftsmanship by hand stitching each seat and creating different patterns
