Summerhill Residence by Edmonds + Lee Architects

Issue 008, the most recent edition of the brilliant iPad app magazine EDITION29 Architecture, features the Summerhill Residence designed by Edmonds + Lee Architects.

Built as a rural weekend getaway for a San Francisco family in the heart of Northern California’s Wine Country, the Kenwood, California residence is made up of three buildings: the main house, guesthouse, and a detached garage. Intended to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living, the spaces continue into the outdoors to enjoy the views of the hills of Sonoma.

They chose to separate the living spaces with the intent of minimizing the visual impact that one large structure would have on the scenic landscape around. The buildings are connected with outdoor courtyards that you access through sliding and swing doors. The indoor public spaces feature expansive windows that give an open feeling to the space while also framing the amazing views.

Issue 008 includes an audio interview with the architect, Robert Edmonds. Also included are other modern houses from Sao Paulo to Nagoya, Japan.
