The young creative minds at ADzero have been feverishly working to create the next high-end smartphone and it looks like they’ve done it. The Bamboo Smartphone sets itself apart from the rest by being backed in a lightweight bamboo. No need to worry about the durability of the bamboo – it’s specially treated to take every day wear and tear like weather changes, water, and even the occasional slip from your hands.
The team has been busy over the last year to perfect the design and to develop its own customized ADAOS operating system that the phone will run on.
ADzero will launch the smartphone line at Tent London – September 20-23, 2012.

Very pretty, but as is sometimes the case with good design, the business acumen doesn’t seem to jive. I fear that due to their business model (the exceedingly unprofitable business of developing hardware & software) the only place I will see this phone is on this and other design blogs. I would plea to this team to continue with the bamboo, but instead of playing the losing hardware+software game, re-route your energies to developing REPLACEMENT bodies for popular phones. If you engineered a single new bamboo replacement body for a phone with 100k+ install base every couple months (Starting with the obvious Samsung phones with removable backs), you could see some serious profit and sustainability potential.
