The Bastone Collection Explores Ornament Versus Structure

If you’re like most of us, there’s come a time when choosing a new sofa or coffee table or dining chairs has become a tug of war between ornament and structure. The Bastone Collection was inspired by just that dilemma. The collection consists of a cabinet and a sideboard, both designed by master cabinet maker and designer Antrei Hartikainen for Poiat studio.

Both pieces are beautiful studies in light and shadow, as well as Hartikainen’s style of functional craftsmanship. Round geometric shapes add a touch of finesse and proportion, while wooden dowel rods provide structural support and create an ornamental effect. The symmetric form achieved enables the Bastone Collection to hold its aesthetic no matter the angle it’s viewed from.
