The Glyph Collection Is a Typographic Textile Masterpiece

A personal favorite of mine at NeoCon 2022 was the Glyph Collection. A collaboration between Arc-Com design studio and design studio and font foundry House Industries, it’s a celebration of typographic forms. Six unique textile patterns were created based off of the pound sign, tilde, parentheses, a lowercase i, and an x.  Each has a strong personality on its own, and can either work individually or be paired with other textiles in the same color palette.

“The creation of letters and numbers for House has always wandered somewhere between fine art and function. The alphabet as a muse to create patterns that morph glyphs into something that transcends an isolated character is what inspired The Glyph Collection,” said House founder Andy Cruz.

All of the patterns within the Glyph Collection – including the velvets – are bleach cleanable. They also measure up for use in high traffic areas. There are three yarn-dyed, jacquard woven patterns: the i-pattern, X-pattern, and Pound pattern all use a heavy, twisted boucle yarn and a wool-like synthetic polyester. The second half of the collection explores customized velvet constructions. Parentheses features a full pile with a plush, uneven surface, while Tilde’s cut and uncut surface pile adds dimension.

So, which pattern is your favorite? I’m partial to Tilde.
