The Minimalist Jump Armchair by Massproductions

Jump Armchair is a minimalist chair created by Stockholm-based designer Chris Martin of Massproductions. The steel frame, which acts as the skeleton of the structure, is purposefully visible, while the cushion gives the impression that it is floating freely within the frame.

The armrests were particularly interesting for the design as it is the only part of the structure that comes in direct contact with the body. As a result, Martin chose wood for its tactility and warmth, giving the armrest a softer shape in order to provide the skin’s contact points a soothing feeling.

The designer then states, “Having the steel structure visible rather than hidden felt honest, often things are made that are more technical and difficult. Therefore, it can be liberating to design something with a simple assembly.”
