The Ready-to-Wear-Away Dress

If you recall, I spotted Paper No. 9 in NYC at Model Citizens 2011 during ICFF. They collaborated with designer Sylvia Heisel on a new garment that looks like a paper bag but is so much more.

The Ready-to-Wear-Away Dress has the look and feel of leather, like most of Paper No. 9’s other pieces, but it is actually made of kraft paper. However, over time, body heat and natural wear cause the outer skin to slowly disintegrate, revealing a secret layer underneath. Composed of hand-written notes featuring inspirational quotes from legends such as Gandi and TuPac Shakur, each panel of the dress has its own quote, hidden until time reveals it.
