The Sierra Collection Explores What the World Has To Offer

Melbourne-based TSAR Carpets has just released its new Sierra Collection, a series of broadloom wool-rich Axminster carpet looks inspired by global mountainous terrains and desert landscapes. The brand’s signature use of bold elements plays well here, transforming each individual design into a contemporary statement with loads of topographical dimension. Natural, earthy tones carry the collection from geological motifs to glacial elements, with all five designs offering a calm sense a tranquility.

“The Sierra Collection was first and foremost inspired by Iceland’s historic and impressive female-led weaving industry and the natural beauty of the country’s stark and craggy landscape,” says Charlotte McGeehan, a trained weaver and TSAR’s in-house designer. “That investigation further spurred interest in bringing to life additional rugged and arid landscapes worldwide — from California’s Coachella Valley to the rugged cliffs of the Shire at Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne.”

Axminster Carpet is the name used for carpets with a pile created by the same technique used to make velvet or chenille. Constructed for strength and durability, there are many benefits to it, including pattern clarity, ease of maintenance and sound absorption. All good things! Sierra’s textures are a result of McGeehan’s experimental and labor-intensive weaving techniques. Once she finished, the designs were digitally translated into broadloom Axminster carpet designs. Thanks to 80% New Zealand wool, the collection works well for a variety of high-traffic public spaces and residential environments. Specification, colors and scale can be fully customized to suit any project.
