In Ukranian the word ‘soniah’ means “the flower of the sun.” A perfect name for FAINA’s SONIAH floor lamp that appears to grow out of the ground and into the sky. The design is inspired by the Trypillians, the mother of civilization of Ukrainians, who had beliefs directly connected to the endless motion of the sun. While the sun gives and enables all life, SONIAH brings energy into the home in the form of lighting.
SONIAH is carefully sculpted by hand from a live material – ztista – invented by FAINA. This nature-friendly material blends clay, wood chips, straw, linen and recycled paper and will decompose in five years once combined with soil.
First presented at Milan Design City 2020, the full collection includes three floor lamps, three sconces, and a table lamp.
