Toronto-based designer Tahir Mahmood combines inspiration from the crafts and techniques of his Indian ancestors with the design concepts of today to produce pieces that are exuberantly modern, yet anchored in tradition. Our favorite are the Tinga floor lamps. Customers can choose from 11 colors of glazed resin rings which are then stacked in any order they fancy. The shades are a simple canvas. Mahmood also creates a series of mean mortar and pestles made from sisso wood and resin using ancient lathe turning techniques.
