TRANE by APOLLO Architects & Associates

TRANE is a minimalist residence located in Tokyo, Japan, designed by APOLLO Architects & Associates. The clients are a husband who works in finance and wife who works in the high-end furniture industry. The husband was previously a jazz musician, and wanted the interior to reflect his favorite jazz artist John Coltrane.

The building is elevated by a series of stilts with the entryway situated next to the parking area which is sheltered by an overhanging volume. The master bedroom is located towards the back of the main floor adjacent the courtyard, allowing abundant light to enter the space.

The upper level comprises the dining and kitchen areas which are reminiscent of a jazz bar, providing seating for guests to share a meal and drink in close proximity. The main living area is characterized by double-height ceilings as well as skylights to maximize natural light.
