Travel Stories of Vietnam Inspire Refined Lodge Seating Collection

In a contemporary tale of East meets West, French designer Jean-Marie Massaud introduces his interpretation of modern Vietnamese design with his latest creation, the Lodge collection. Designed in collaboration with furniture brand District Eight, the series of folding chairs, stools, and bag holders offer a fresh, contemporary perspective on Vietnamese aesthetics, blending diverse cultural influences.

District Eight, based in Ho Chi Minh City, plays a crucial role in realizing Massaud’s vision through the expert craftsmanship of its local artisans. By manufacturing the pieces in-house, the brand ensures that every detail –from the smooth finish of the wood to the precision of the leather – reflects a high level of care and skill. This collaboration allows the Lodge collection to not only pay tribute to Vietnam’s design heritage but also to showcase the country’s talent in blending traditional techniques with modern production.

The aesthetic focus of the Lodge collection centers on clean lines and minimalist silhouettes, achieving both functionality and elegance. The pieces are designed with user comfort in mind, with supple leather providing a soft resting space and hand-finished oak wood contributing to an overall sense of warmth. The pairing of leather and wood is intentional, highlighting the materials’ natural qualities. With options such as cognac brown, black, or white leather, alongside raw oak or ebony-stained wood, the collection offers versatility that appeals to both modern and traditional settings.

Through this collaboration, Massaud and District Eight reimagine Vietnamese design by creating a collection that speaks to global tastes while remaining deeply connected to local craftsmanship and culture. The Lodge series thus becomes more than just furniture – it becomes a narrative of cultural exchange, travel, and artistry, inviting users to experience a piece of modern Vietnam in their own spaces.
