Twig is a minimalist chair created by Tokyo-based design firm Nendo for Alias. The Italian furniture company specializes in producing furniture in aluminum, thus the design firm’s decision to create a chair made of four aluminum “twigs” and a seat.
While the aluminum structure remains the same, five variations of the upper portion of the seat exist, providing varying shapes, colors, and materials. As a result, a number of seating experiences are provided, ranging from high-back seating for dining, or a segmented desk chair for casual use.
Currently, the seat materials available include wood, plastic, or fabric. In addition, when the seat and upper portion is removed, the aluminum frames of multiple seats can be stacked, making storage convenient and reducing potential transportation costs.
