Graduate student Dave Flynn recently designed two new armchairs that are ideal “for sitting while reading a book, staring-out-the-window-in-a-daydream sitting, and sitting-and-drinking-a-spiked-beverage-at-the-end-of-a-tiring-day.” Inspired by the work of architect Gio Ponti, the two chairs are modeled after Ponti’s work. Their vibrant colors give nod to famous racing automobiles, specifically the 24 Hours of Le Mans race that began in 1923. Thus, the name is the 923 Armchair.
CW9 is a bold black and blue chair which gives nod to Chenard-Walcker #9, the first car to win the Le Mans race in 1923.
The Gulf edition takes after the 1971 Porsche 917 Gulf, which made its debut in the 1971 movie appropriately named “Le Mans”.
