Doug Aitken Destroys a Gallery Floor

Doug Aitken jackhammered out a massive hole in a concrete gallery floor, filled it with water and installed underwater microphones to record and broadcast the sound of precise drips from the ceiling… and that’s just at the entrance.

Below are a few stills from an incredible “trailer” for the exhibit, that is itself a work of art.

Note the speakers near the water droppers.

Surrounding the aptly titled Sonic Fountain are several text-based works made from a diverse range of materials, including broken mirrors, flowing “mud,” and what appears to be some kind of extraterrestrial rock.
