Upperkut Agency Offices in Canada by Jean de Lessard

Designer Jean de Lessard took the basement of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church, which is located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal neighbourhood in Montreal, and transformed it into creative offices for Upperkut, a growing communications agency. The company’s owners wanted a space that fit their image: bright and dynamic with a sense of unity, and easy to expand. By choosing Jean de Lessard, they took the first step in the right direction.

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is still an active place of worship, so the designer needed to be sure that this extraordinary location was still respectful to its original structure. Some things simply could not be changed, such as the ceilings and site-specific acoustical mechanisms. Lessard got to work, dividing the space into four main sections: the president’s office, the project managers’ area, the studio, and the multi-function room. These spaces are linked by a corridor that acts as a central “spine”, and are well divided while still feeling unified, thanks to color.
