Window by Nendo for TEN:TEN

Window is a minimal wristwatch created by Tokyo-based designers Nendo for TEN:TEN. The scope of the project was to cover both the development of the wristwatch, as well as the 10:10 brand. The name was chosen as a play on the colon punctuation that separates the hour and the minute, which is expressed by two “ten-ten“ marks, the Japanese word for “two dots”.

In addition, most advertisements and brochures of watches or clocks display a time of 10:10 as that is generally considered as the most aesthetically pleasing angle for the hour and minute hands. The theme of their first wristwatch is air travel, illustrated by gentle curves that run from the oval bezel down to the offset glass surface.

The frame of the glass is meant to resemble the oval shape of an airplane’s window. The leather band is removable, and can be interchanged with an included strap that can attach to luggage like a name tag. The limited edition All Nippon Airways version has a dial that has a gradient from light blue to white, which gives a strong impression of looking out of an airplane window and enjoying the view.
