Window Shade Fabrics Bring Soho Style To Any Project Or Home

The following post is brought to you by Eclipse. Our partners are hand-picked by the Design Milk team because they represent the best in design.

Eclipse has partnered with London-born, NYC-based designer John Byrd on a new collection of roller shade fabric—Best of Interior Shading (BOI). The colorful, patterned 27 styles of sun shading fabrics were created for roller shade applications.

The entire collection was inspired by the place that John now calls home – Soho, NYC. Eclipse asked him to “translate” the atmosphere of the Soho neighborhood into textile design.

He says, “This is the place where one can find true inspiration for new things in the intimate context of a dynamic neighborhood, shaped by the artists and gallerists who first lived there.” To capture the true essence of Soho, both John and Eclipse had a clear vision: they needed to have a rich fabric texture to adequately reflect the “rough” charm of Soho (its cobbled stoned streets, iron-casts) and its unique architecture—therefore, they didn’t want any printed patterns.

For example, the Mooie fabric has beautiful horizontal bands that were directly inspired by the graphic architecture of Soho fire escapes.

Each fabric is available in two versions: a light filtering version and a room-darkening version for more restful sleep. They’ve even designed extra wide fabrics (up to 114″) to avoid ugly seams with large windows! Hurrah! The fabrics are 100% PVC-Free, Halogene-Free and Oeko-Tex certified, so you can be sure they’re safe. They also take the environment very seriously—the BOI range addresses environmental concerns across 8 criteria, including manufacturing and recyclability.
