You’ll Never Have to Worry About Tying Your Laces With the Nike Adapt Huarache

There are not many – or any – sneakers that can attribute water skiing as its spark of inspiration. Tinker Hatfield began sketching out what was to later become one of Nike’s most iconic silhouettes of the 1990s during a water skiing trip, pairing an exoskeleton saddle with a neoprene sock into the first Nike Air Huarache. It’s back again, this time outfitted with a few additional technological upgrades that upgrade function to meets its futuristic fashion.

A small engine inside the midsole pulls the laces to tighten the Flyknit and quad- axial mesh upper.

Inspired by the original 1991 Air Huarache, the updated Nike Adapt Huarache retains the lightweight feel and sleek silhouette of the original, while also adding FitAdapt, a power-lacing system housed in the midsole engineered to tighten or loosen each shoe automatically at the touch of a button.

If you were wondering, “is there an app for that?” you wondered right. The Adapt Huarache is also customizable using the Nike Adapt app, inviting wearers to access a number of preset fit recommendations for foot type and activity, with connectivity to Apple Watch and Siri built in for wearers to use FitAdapt voice commands.

The app also allows wearers to customize the color of a set of integrated LED lights housed within the Adapt Huarache midsole.

With the [Nike Adapt] app, wearers of the Nike Adapt Huarache are greeted by a universal login (consistent for all Nike FitAdapt product — current and future), a themed interface specific to the Huarache and a number of preset fit recommendations for foot type and activity. The functionality of the app can also be driven by Apple Watch and Siri, two advances that support on-the-go shifts.
