A graphic designer daughter named Codi Goodis and her architect father named Richard Wismer partnered up for a personal project they call Communications Through Time. The collaboration began when Goodis found her grandparent’s vintage typewriter and decided to display it on her wall above her modern day computer set up.

Her father, Wismer, came into play by designing the paper-like shelf that floats above the typewriter. The design mimics stacked paper that is randomly laid out as if sitting by the typewriter waiting to be used.

That dog is killing me with cuteness!

It’s always a trip to see a post about someone you know. Rich is a good guy with a great designer’s sense of space and play.
And by ‘that dog’ I think you mean, ‘that ewok.’

Wondering how the shelf is mounted since there’s no obvious hardware – same for the typewriter. It would make me a little nervous having a heavy typewriter mounted right above my monitor. I do like the style of the shelf, that’s pretty neat.

Thank you for the kind words Zaedrus.

April:
The shelf is mounted via a custom fabricated steel hidden support and the typewriter is mounted via a custom fabricated steel plate. Both fabrications are positively mounted to the substrate.

Now there’s a new use for vintage typewriters that I haven’t seen before!

What a great idea. I decided to use this basic design for my home office and put an inspirational wall decal above the shelf that I got at http://www.decalsforthewall.com/ . Everyone that has seen it really likes it.
