To drum up Philadelphia’s reputation for the arts and design, C.H. Briggs Company challenged a “who’s who” of architects and designers from the Philadelphia area to design inventive benches made entirely of DuPont™ Corian®. Briggs then commissioned local fabricators to bring the avant-garde “Corian® Bench Inventions” to life. The contemporary benches are being exhibited during the month of October (so check them out soon!) throughout Center City – maybe you’ve passed by them on your way to work or out to lunch.

The benches are displayed in the following locations:

  • Schuylkill Banks Park: On the river banks between Cherry Street and Walnut Streets
  • Chestnut Park: 1707 Chestnut Street between 17th and 18th Streets
  • Three Parkway Plaza: 110 North 16th Street between Cherry Street and Arch Streets

The forward-thinking benches combine technology and design to produce stirring images in unexpected locations, many of which pay homage to deep-rooted Philadelphia traditions and push the limits of a traditional bench. From stacked crates and futuristic pods to stoops, leaves and Lego-like benches, designs that defy the ordinary are being showcased.
