RISD-trained product designer Brendan Ravenhill credits his childhood years in Cote d’Ivoire and summers in coastal Maine for his fascination with the beauty of tools. Dustbin is the result of his quest to marry form and function for everyday life. The lovechild of a trash can and a dust pan, the Dustbin combines the best qualities of both implements, elevating a typically lowly object to an esteemed level of design.
The Dustbin is constructed of folded, powder coated steel and features a counterbalanced dust pan lid on a base. The magnetized beech wood hand broom handle with black and gray natural tampico bristle brush affixes handily to the side (or front, or back, for that matter). The Los Angeles-based designer commissioned local metal folders Angell & Giroux and local company Gordon brush to fabricate his creation.
The Dustbin will be offered at wholesale pricing this fall in order to fund a limited edition first run and tell the story of its LA-based fabrication. Ravenhill plans to document the production of the first 100 Dustbins produced.
