Gemma Smith

I stumbled upon Australian artist Gemma Smith and her Tangle paintings via the Sarah Cottier Gallery. Upon further exploration, I was immediately drawn to both her large-scale paintings and translucent acrylic sculptures. Her abstract paintings and prism-like “boulders,” as she calls them, are both modern and mesmerizing. She combines bright bold colors, angles, and lines, all in an asymmetrical way. She plays with hard edges and soft curves that show her keen sense of spatial relationships.
