A pre-fabricated, low energy house by Kraus Schonberg Architects. One big connected space, separated by an upper and a lower part. The common space is organized by staggered volumes of structures without being interrupted by partitions.

The volume of the space is created by rooms of various heights, corresponding to their individual function.
Walking around the house takes one through a variety of rooms on the upper level, which are orientated to the garden as well as to the inner atrium.

The lower part rest below ground level creating a direct view into the garden while standing up and a privacy feel while sitting down.

That bookcase is to DIE for! It looks a bit scary to get the books up the top though, you wouldn’t want to be afraid of heights!

Is there a ladder to reach the upper parts of the bookshelf or would I have to climb? Either way it’s impractical, despite looking great.

Desinged pretty well, great use of space both inside and outside. And the perfect use of glass for awesome outside view.

[...] There is a definate arguement for prefab hosuing being green. Component housing that is built off site can often leverage economies of scale and reduce waste in ways that single job homebuilders cannot. And they do not have to be ugly, here is a very interesting German design with one of the better bookshelves I have ever seen: http://design-milk.com/haus-w-germany-by-kraus-schonberg-architects/ [...]

Plus points, stylish in design yet practical also. Though there are always arguments as to the wider acceptance of such a drastic move from traditional build styles in Europe. We see many single projects like this, which is great, but no emergence into mass use which I always feel is a shame…

Great stuff here!
Modular / prefab homes will offer solutions to the world’s housing shortage for the deprived, under-privileged and low income populations in society by providing a total system for basic, low-cost, quality built housing. The modular housing constructed with sandwich panels is the lowest in cost, most rapidly erected, simplest in design, and most structurally sound basic housing in existence today. Plus, you can ship 21 houses in a 40 foot container.

I love the ‘sunken’ living room in relation to the backyard. It must have a great point of view from below.

Its quite a scandinavian style, very bright but you would not want your neighbours to close
