iPhone Qwerty Keyboard

iPhone Qwerty Keyboard

Have you ever been typing with your iPhone and just wished for one of these? I know I have.

This iPhone Qwerty concept is from the mind of designer Altamash Jiwani. The keyboard slides up and down and is attached to a protective case. It blends in seamlessly with the sleek iPhone design. The design also incorporates a finger rest at the lower end of the case for comfort and the case does not interfere with charging or doc connection. The concept would come with a plug and play app to disable the keyboard.

The Qwerty iPhone Keyboard would be made from polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and carbon steel for the slider rails. Check out the process behind this idea.

  1. Wow this is such a great idea. It’s one of the reasons why I’ve been reluctant to get an iPhone b/c I find touchscreens harder to type quickly on, but with this, that problem is solved!

  2. This scares me. It’s true typing with tangible keys is much easier, but this design is going to create a very top-heavy device that will be see-sawing out of your hands each time you press a key and lift up your thumb. It literally creates a fulcrum on the user’s index fingers. The phone will topple out of your hands!

This also might be the worst photoshop I’ve ever seen or maybe he just didn’t calibrate the printer that made the paper he laid on top of the phone. It doesn’t “fit” the phone; it looks more like a borg enhancement.

  4. usually i reserve my comments on design on blogs but a friend showed me this and i had to just had to say how terrible this is. it is the essence of poor design. counter-productive, counter-intuitive, altering a UI which is superior, unsustainable, unoriginal and ugly. why are you promoting this work?

    • I posted this because I hate typing on my iPhone. I would love a qwerty keyboard. I think this is a good idea, at least the start of a dialogue about what the iPhone is missing. Everyone often talks about how great it is, but as much as I love my phone, I’d like for it to have a keyboard where I can feel my way around the keys. Maybe its just me, but I prefer traditional keys.

      • You’re not alone. The inability to “type by touch” is one of the things keeping the iphone/ipod from being considered by many gamers a legitimate gaming platform. There are times when you can’t be looking at your fingers.

  5. If you can’t deal with the iPhone UI, get a Blackberry. Personally, I’ve never had any issues typing on my iPhone, but if it doesn’t work for you, it’s best to get something else.

  6. nopes, bad idea, iPhone is better without keyboard and its touch is just gr8 if you like keyboard too much got a BlackBerry :P

  7. I don’t understand…what use is a qwerty keyboard if you still have to type using your thumbs?

  8. I would just like any keyboard attachment to the iphone! If it’s available – obviously one that’s compact! that can be used as and when I choose!
