Jaime Hayon Chess Set

The London Design Festival kicked off on Friday with Jaime Hayon’s chess pieces installation in Trafalgar Square. The set will be in situ until Wednesday September 23rd, and the public can arrange to play games using the 2m high chess pieces. Fun!

That’s pretty cool.
I love that the chess set is one of those items for use that inspire generation after generation of artists and designers to craft their own variations. Always different, always the same. And I love that they’re actually encouraging people to use it, to play the game — to bring the set back to its origins as a useful object, not just a design project.
