I was recently in The Crosby Street Hotel in NYC for a party and noticed a beautiful sculpture in the lobby — a giant head made of letters. After doing some online research, I’m pretty sure that it is by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, whose body of work features the human figure or head usually in conjunction with letters and numbers.

I live in Boston and pass by the one in front of MIT all the time and I love it! I also like the two figures facing each other (the ones made of the letters and numbers).

James Plensa has a very distinct style, which is something increasingly rare in the \everything’s been done before\ world of design/art.

Juame Plensa’s work was recently on display at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in England, including a floating wall made up of machine cut letters hanging from strings, forming words and sentences down each column. Some amazing work on display.

I haven’t seen Jaume Plensa;s work before. The settings are wonderful and contrasts so well with their surroundings.
