Kees is a company based in The Netherlands that uses 3D printing technology to create sturdy plastic cases for your iPhone. What’s even cooler about Kees (pronounced “case” in The Netherlands) is that you can design your own case and they make it for you.

They have about 34 basic designs that you choose from; you can then choose to add an illustration to incorporate or pick none. Once that’s chosen, it’s time to move on to what color and material you prefer (soft velvety fur, anyone?), and you can even add text to the sides. And finally, it’s time for the 3D printer to do its thing by building layer upon layer to form your unique case.

This is great! I know it’s silly, but I love the back of the iphone, some of the cases just keep that pretty apple unexposed.

Thanks for the review guys!
Julie, did you see we have anticipated your love for that pretty apple and give you the option the clear the logo?

As a Designer, I wonder about what, if any, differences there are between “design” and “choose a permutation of options available”. I personally wouldn’t say you can ‘design’ this phone, but you do have 26,000 options.

I wish this really was “design your own” case but it isn’t. Its more like customize you case. You can’t upload your own design. You mix and match options and add text to the side – pick a color, pick a background, pick a foreground, add text.

I’totally agree Redfood. But don’t forget this is version 1.0 Who knows what the future brings.

Awesome stuff!!
Even if you can’t design your own 100%, they are still cool looking cases!

Lovely looking designs, but unfortunately parts straight out of a 3D printing machine are generally not very robust, even in the best of cases. I give fragile looking designs, wrapped around a phone which is then stuck in a pocket a lifespan of minutes. Also, unless you have something like a Viper SLA machine the finish will be rougher than a badger’s bum. I hope I’ve missed something though because it’s a great concept
