I could not have been more excited when I saw the LygoLamp from the Netherlands-based design firm Studio Mango. Inspired by LEGO bricks, they created a circular hanging lamp that arrives at your home in the form of 12 dozen curved, interlocking plastic bricks, as well as the necessary lighting hardware. After some childhood block building fun, you have yourself a super cool and modern fixture that will surely get people talking.

LygoLamp debuts at Salone 2012 in Milan and will be available in the middle of 2012. To begin, five colors will be produced – white, black, transparent, transparent red and transparent purple.

How did they get around the patent rights?

Fantastic lighting fixture. I can only imagine how it looks with the light coming through some of those translucent parts. Also wondering how they got around the patent rights.

The studded blocks patents ended in 1988. Hence megabloks. The lamps look awesome. Might try and make one with my sons Lego!!!
