Model Citizens NYC 2011

Model Citizens is an off-site show during New York Design Week that began just three years ago. Held at the Chelsea Art Museum just a few blocks down from the Javits, this show has grown dramatically since last year. With over 90 US and international designers showing everything from furniture to lighting to glassware and jewelry, the show did not disappoint. Here’s my roundup of some of my personal favorites.

Kate McCreary

Daniel Moyer and his cool chair called “I Would Do Backsprings For You.” Check out how the back and seat adjust:

Snug-it! fastener system by EcoSystems.

Beautiful new pieces from Debra Folz (above and below).

Beautiful furniture by Plywood Office. I especially loved this hammock with cup holder and mini-garden.

Breathe Lamp by Ivey Lian. It lights up and then dims as it breathes in and out. I wish I had taken video. Creepy yet calming.

Simple lamps and turned wooden mallets by B.Light Design.

A very special chair, or “Love Seat,” by Click Boom Pow. I also saw their New Role Models project that we just featured.

Reveal Clock by Matthew Lechowick.

Paper No. 9 uses paper as a protective covering and as it wears off, a secret pattern is revealed. They were also showing a bag made from paper, which was very impressive — looked like leather.

Cat Merrick‘s sandblasted porcelain was my best of show, though it was hard to choose!
